Teacher P’s Home Daycare

The philosophy of Teacher P’s Daycare is that every child deserves love and attention. Discipline takes the form of positive redirection, and activities to stimulate growth and development, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially are a priority. Pilar is committed to providing an excellent child development program, recognizing that each child is a unique individual. Pilar’s is a home where love, trust, respect, and a sense of gratitude thrive. Responsive and affectionate daily care allows infants and toddlers to develop a sense of trust and emotional security.

Teacher P’s Daycare uses the Creative Curriculum, based on Piaget’s theories of development in young children, as a guide for interactions and the daily activities with the children and parents. Piaget believed that every child, beginning in infancy, learned through the active exploration of their environment.

Teacher P’s Daycare’s indoor space is divided into several interest areas; there is an area for the children to quietly play and explore the world of books. There are also areas for building blocks, music, movement, and dramatic play. Finally, there are areas for eating, napping, and diapering. It’s a safe place for the children to play and freely explore. The children are also taken outdoors, as the weather permits, for outdoor play.

Each child receives a notebook in which Pilar writes about that child’s day. Also, parents are encouraged to write observations about their children in the notebook. This two-way communication is an invaluable tool. Families are always welcome and encouraged to be involved.

It is also a part of the daily routine to bathe the children after a healthy, home-cooked lunch, in preparation for their afternoon nap. The children are very well cared for, in a loving family environment.

To keep up to date on the different issues and innovations in child care, Pilar attends conferences such as the Chicago Metropolitan Association for the Education of Young Children and the Family Child Care Homes Annual Providers’ Conference. She also makes a point to enroll in Child Development classes at the local colleges, to further her education in the field of early childhood education.

One of Pilar’s most important goals is to be an advocate supporting children and their families. She also wants to help parents advocate for their children as they transition to another child care facility or on to school. When parents and child care providers work together, care and respect flow through them to the children.

A pre-admission conference with both the parents and the child is required. This allows both the parents and the child to become familiar with the staff, schedule, and the environment. Several forms must also be completed along with the registration fee and a deposit of one week’s tuition before a child’s first day.
