Concordia Day had its beginnings 40 years ago, as a service of Concordia Place, a Chicago non-profit providing proactive-solutions to social needs. Concordia Day has all the benefits of a larger daycare, while maintaining the personal touch of a small daycare.
At Concordia, play forms the foundation for learning. Experienced teachers connect childlike curiosity with fun activities to support social, cognitive, and physical development. The program also features enrichment activities such as music, yoga, and Spanish.
Teachers with degrees in early childhood education lead each classroom, and there are teachers in every classroom certified in first aid and CPR. The classrooms are small, with low staff-child ratios.
The teachers at Concordia Day constantly monitor, assess, and document every child’s developmental progress, and there are formal parent-teacher conferences twice a year.
Concordia Day provides a safe, clean, and beautiful environment, with a secure, controlled-access entry. The walls are painted with non-VOC paint, and soft, recycled antimicrobial carpet tiles cover the floor. Finally, the children are served organic meals and snacks, on BPA-free plates and utensils.
The programs at Concordia are divided into infants, toddlers and twos, and preschool.
The infant’s program includes babies 6 weeks to 15 months old. It focuses on developmental milestones including grasping, walking, interactive play, and developing socialization and language skills. Developmentally appropriate activities are provided, allowing the children to make progress at their ideal pace. The goal is to promote self-confidence in the child’s ability to explore the world. The infant’s program also has a dedicated room for mothers to breastfeed their babies.
The toddlers and twos program serves children ages 15-36 months. Developmentally appropriate activities and the play-based curriculum work together to create an ideal environment for a child’s physical, social, and intellectual development. The play-centered approach encourages not only growth, but also self-confidence and a joy of learning. The teachers work closely with the parents to ensure a healthy and solid home to school connection. The directors and teachers evaluate every child’s progress, recognizing their individual social and academic needs.
