Fun Things to Do in Chicago for Easter 2024 With Family or Friends

No matter if you are planning to spend Easter with family or friends, there are plenty of options to have fun in Chicago this Easter.

Whether you want to take the kids egg hunting at events held in some of the best Chicago parks or enjoy the best Easter brunches with your mates (we all know Chicago food is great, but on even more so on special occasions), Easter is right around the corner and you should really decide what to do, since there are tickets to be bought and arrangements to be made. True, the holiday’s festivities are mostly kid-focused—and you’ll find plenty of Easter Bunny meet-and-greets and egg hunts perfect for all families — but Easter-themed 5K runs and bar crawls mean that people of all ages can find something fun to do. Get ready to embrace all things spring-related, and here are some of the best things to do and places to be in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Spring Egg-Stravaganza

Chicago Easter

There’s plenty to do at the Lincoln Park Zoo’s annual Easter celebration, where kids can participate in a series of egg hunts, focused on different age groups or pose for the perfect photo with the big Easter bunny. Also included in the experience are free carousel and train rides, outdoor games and activities, live music by Mary Macaroni and the Impastas and more.

South Loop Easter Egg Hunt

Chicago Women’s Park & Garden prepared the annual South Loop Easter Egg Hunt. There will be 15,000+ eggs for kids to find, as well as an animal petting zoo, face painting, games and prizes to be won, while the Easter Bunny will also be present, ready to take photos with the guests.

Easter Vintage Eggstravaganza Fest

Windy City Market hosts an Easter-themed edition of its monthly vintage fest. Shop for clothing, art, home goods, accessories and more during this two-day event at Patio Theater in Portage Park. Over 100 vendors will be on site offering unique treasures alongside delicious bites and live music by DJs. There will also be an egg hunt inside the venue, with surprises for the lucky egg finders.

Helicopter Dropped Easter Egg Event

If only looking for the eggs in the parks is not enough, an epic Easter egg hunt awaits in Aurora, where choppers rain down colorful surprises from the sky. Get ready for an egg-citing adventure!

Organizers promise a lot of fun on this new twist on a traditional family favorite. At 11:00 a.m., a helicopter will fly in and hover next to Faith Lutheran Church dropping thousands of Easter eggs for elementary school kids to hunt. Adults can join in the fun, too! Food, fun, games, and photos with the easter bunny will happen inside the church afterwards. Celebrate the holiday with your community and make some new friends at Faith. You won’t want to miss this!

Gallagher Way Easter Egg Hunt

Another famous eggs hunt will take place at Gallagher Way! The kids are welcome (even furry ones, pets being allowed) to meet the Easter Bunny, enjoy face painters, and hunt for eggs.

There will be two Egg Hunt sessions at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. 250 kids will be able to participate in each session. This is a free event, but each child must have a ticket to participate.

Each child that participates must have an Eventbrite ticket and must show upon entry of the event. Parents/spectators do NOT need a ticket. Kids should bring their own baskets for the hunt. Kids ages 5 and under will get a 30-second head start. Each child that participates will receive a candy bag at the end of the hunt upon exit, regardless of how many eggs they collected. Some eggs will have small items inside and some will be empty. Each child can collect no more than 10 eggs.

3rd Annual Easter Event for Families

Family Easter

The 3rd Annual Easter Event for Families this year promises to top last year’s event with many more characters, egg hunts, and activities for kids to enjoy with their families.
This year the Event will be held at the Industrial Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds on March 30th. The Easter Egg hunt is free and no tickets are required but tickets for admission to the Industrial Building are required and will be sold at the North side of the building where the ramp is located. Special wristbands will be provided to everyone who enters and will need to have them on for reentry to the event.

There will be 4 different 2,000ct Easter Egg Hunts starting at 9:30a in different areas of the Fairgrounds around the Industrial Building (Weather Permitting).

Family Easter Cruise

Whether celebrating with friends, or getting the whole family out for a special day, an Easter cruise is an event you do not want to miss!

Come aboard a three-story, 140-foot luxury yacht for an Easter cruise around Lake Michigan. Kids can bust a move on the dance floor with the Easter Bunny and show off their artistic talents at a coloring station while adults snap pictures of the amazing views and sip on drinks from the fully stocked cash bar. Amazing views of the Chicago skyline, Chicago’s iconic landmarks, the harbor and more are going to make another very Instagrammable moment to add to Chicago’s list of best places to snap photos in
