Enjoy the Chicago River From Your Floating Hot Tub This Winter

We all know how harsh Chicago winters can be, and anything to try and make them a little less chilled is a wonderful addition. As the winter frost settles in, Chicago Electric Boat Company offers a new opportunity to spend quality warm time on the river. Two new surprises await water aficionados – heated Duffy boats and the newest sensation, Hot Tub Boats!

Seasonal soak to take in the holidays in style

The winter blues are going to be easier on us if we try to counter the bone deep chills with warm waves. Chicago Electric Boat Company’s latest addition, the hot tub boats, promise to deliver on the warming up!

Launching out of the docks at Marina City (300 N State St), the boats are fit for six people and are going to float along the main branch of the Chicago River, from Michigan Avenue to Wells Street, while passengers stay warm in heated water. It is almost unbelievable: a bubbling hot tub, on a boat, cruising the Chicago River!. What a way to celebrate an important event in your life, with a few of your favorite people along for something which is not just a boat ride, but a floating paradise, yours to enjoy. You can choose your favorite time on the river, but at dusk might be the perfect moment to be able to also see the city lights reflecting on the water, while you are immersed in warm water, while enjoying  a winter wonderland like never before. Even if you are not usually a hot tub fan, but you enjoy the water, this might be the perfect winter pastime for you.

The boats have underwater lights, floating cup holders and coolers. Food is not allowed on board, but guests can bring their own drinks. They will also be able to listen to their music of choice while floating down the river, since bluetooth speakers will be provided. Also, just in case you need to cool off, there’s a section where you can sit a while out of the water.

In between customers, the tubs will be sanitized with UV lights and saltwater. Passengers are encouraged to wear a swimsuit and bring towels and flip flops, but can purchase them on site if needed. Boats will operate Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 8pm, while having extended hours on Saturday, till 9pm. Customers must be at least 13 to be allowed on board, and the cost is $250 on weekdays and $315 on weekends. Reservations for a 90-minute ride are now available through Chicago Electric Boat Company’s website, and cruises are scheduled to begin on December 8th.

The heated duffy, a way to enjoy the river year-round

Just in case hot tubs are not your thing, and you don’t particularly enjoy the idea of being in a swimsuit outside in December, there is another option to enjoy the river in style. The company’s duffy boats have undergone a cozy transformation, being now fitted with a built-in heater. You will be able to glide down the float along the Chicago River, snug in the warmth of your private vessel, while the magical winter scenery surrounds you.The river adventure you enjoyed best in the warmer seasons is now a year-round affair. Up to 10 people can fit in these 22-foot boats which depart from any of the company’s docks. They’re fully enclosed and decorated with festive lights for a cozy time. The luxury Duffys cost $156 per hour on weekdays and $191 per hour on Saturdays and Sundays.

Get ready to embrace the winter waves with open arms and toasty toes. Your next adventure awaits!

Options to enjoy the water from afar or only the watering

Let’s say you are not quite the sailor, and would much rather enjoy the water from the pier, there is a way to do just that in the Windy City.
Breathtaking lakefront views, unmatched entertainment, and cool breezes — the Navy Pier, a slice of heaven for tourists and locals alike in Chicago – is the place to be even in winter. It’s hands down the most sought-after attraction in Chicago and the entire Midwestern region, with a charm that will simply knock your boots off. The allure of Navy Pier lies behind its stunning street views particularly from the high-rising Ferris wheel, as well as humongous boats, splash fountains, extravaganza, great restaurants, art scene, and much more.

Finally, if being outside in the cold just doesn’t cut it for you, there is an experience in town which is warranted to warm you up. Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Show brings a Las Vegas feel (Lite Show!) to Chicago’s South Loop. It is a fun, cheesy, humorous show, housed in a venue with unique decor and enough booze to make an elephant inquire about detox centers. Totally worth a visit, our specialist says.
