New Broadway in Chicago 2023 Lineup Features “Hamilton,” “The Wiz” & More

The 2023 lineup for Broadway In Chicago is now public. This year, it features several big-name productions and award-winning shows that theater lovers will enjoy. Examples include “Hamilton,” which will make a return in September, and “The Wiz,” which is scheduled for November.

Currently Open

With an opening on September 27 of last year, “Cabaret ZaZou” continues its run into early 2023. This event is “a unique entertainment experience” that combines amazing live music, international cirque performances, and raucous comedy with a multi-course meal.

“The Book of Mormon” runs from March 28 to April 16 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. It is an “outrageous musical comedy” which tells the tale of a couple of missionaries from two ends of the spectrum who have embarked on a journey to spread the Good Word.

Opening In April

There are a total of four performances opening in April. They include “A Soldier’s Play” set in 1944 on a southern US Army base where a black sergeant is murdered and the story digs into topics that come from the interrogations. It runs from April 4 to 16 at the CIBC Theatre.

“Jagged Little Pill” is a musical based on the world-changing music of Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette. The story reveals a spectrum of emotions ranging from joy and love to heartache, strength, and wisdom. It runs from April 11 to 23 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre.

A Disney tale gets a contemporary spin in “Into The Woods” which features actors reprising their Broadway roles. They include Montego Glover (The Witch), Stephanie J. Block (The Baker’s Wife), Sebastian Arcelus (The Baker), and Gavin Creel (Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf). It runs from April 25 to May 7 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre.

“Sasha Velour – The Big Reveal Live Show” is an evening of drag, live art, and storytelling packaged together to celebrate the release of her forthcoming book “The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag.” The show includes an audience Q&A at the end. It will be at the Broadway Playhouse on April 29 and 30.

“Disney’s Aladdin” is adapted from the animated Disney film. This musical traces the daring adventures of Aladdin which include elements of classic comedy and a timeless romance. This event will be hosted in the Cadillac Palace Theatre and will take place from May 17 to 28.

“To Kill A Mockingbird” is Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s new play. It is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher and gets inspiration from the classic novel by Harper Lee. This is one stop of a multi-year national tour in North America. It runs from August 8 to 13 at the CIBC Theatre.

“Beetlejuice” is based on the Tim Burton film of the same name. The story follows Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teen whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon. It runs from November 7 to 19 at the Auditorium Theatre.

You’ve heard of Betty Boop. Now there’s “Boop! The Musical.” The show takes you on a trip that is Betty’s dream of an ordinary day off from being a super-celebrity in her black-and-white world. It becomes quite an adventure that runs from November 19 to December 31 at the CIBC Theatre.

“The Wiz” is a famous, ground-breaking twist on the classic “Wizard of Oz” which includes doses of soul, gospel, rock, and funk. The story is still about Dorothy trying to find her way home but in a contemporary setting. It takes place at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from November 28 to December 10.
